Council to develop new Welsh medium childcare centres for Bettws and the Ogmore Valley

New Welsh-medium childcare is on its way to Bettws and the Ogmore Valley following the recent decision of the Cabinet of Bridgend County Borough Council to construct two brand new facilities, supported by full funding from Welsh Government.

Designed to support pupil admissions to the recently-completed Ysgol Gynradd Gymraeg Calon Y Cymoedd at Bettws, the facilities will be constructed at the Isfryn Industrial Estate at Blackmill and at the site of the Bettws Boys and Girls Club.

The plans mark the first phase of an initiative to develop more Welsh-medium childcare in Bridgend County Borough, with later phases focusing upon new facilities in Porthcawl and Bridgend town area.

Cllr Dhanisha Patel, Cabinet Member for Wellbeing and Future Generations, said:

“This is excellent news for Welsh-medium education, and I am delighted that Welsh Government has provided us with £2.6m for design and development work so that we can ensure local children will benefit from first-rate modern educational environments.

“We have a proven track record of delivering fantastic new school buildings and other improvements through our long-running school modernisation programme.

“The sites for the first two facilities to be delivered as part of this project have been carefully selected using specific criteria to deliver the greatest benefit for the community, and I am sure that the new Welsh-medium facilities are going to be first-class.”
