Triathlon Community to Unite to ‘Ride for Nathan’ after life changing injuries

Wednesday 29th September 2021 will be the date where triathletes of all ages, abilities and experience will unite on a Zwift ride to support popular Welsh athlete, Nathan Ford.

The Welsh Triathlon community was hit hard after an incident last month at the Aberfeldy Triathlon, host of the British Middle-Distance Championship for 2021. During the bike stage, 37 year old athlete Nathan Ford from Killay, Swansea, was involved in an accident which has seen him suffer some life changing injuries.

As news of the incident broke from his family and friends, the support shown from across the triathlon community far and wide has been extraordinary. Within days, a just giving fund had been established to support Nathan and his family through the rehab that lay ahead, and the sums raised are an indicator of how popular and respected Nathan is across the triathlon community.

Messages of support have been received from the four corners of the globe.

The supportive triathlon community have organised a Zwift ride on September 29th, giving the whole triathlon community an opportunity to unite, and ride in support of Nathan for the battle ahead that he and his family face.  A spokesman for Welsh Triathlon said:

“Clear your diaries, get your club mates together, gather your training buddies, or ride individually; lets come together and show our support. The ride will be led by Nathan’s NFT team mate and coach Mark Rabaiotti, and our friends at Zwift will be spreading the word far and wide to ensure some of the sports’ more famous names join in. If you’d like to share a message of support for Nathan, please forward them to WT-events@welshtriathlon.org, and they will be passed onto Nathan, his family and shared on the screen mid event.”
