Friends of Dunvant Park, the community led organisation that maintains Dunvant Park in Dunvant and Killay in Swansea, has received £1,000 from the Amazon fulfilment centre in the city.

The organisation enhances and encourages biodiversity and community engagement in the large recreational park. The park consists of a bowling green, football pitch, a play area, MUGA, tennis & pickleball court, small community orchard, wildflower meadow and lots of green space.

The donation from Amazon in Swansea will be used to support a range of costs such as providing free squash for children at events, ongoing maintenance of the community football pitch they’ve recently had reinstated, vital insurance cover and hot drinks for valiant litter picking and gardening volunteers.

Speaking on the donation, David Marcok, Site Leader at the Amazon fulfilment centre in Swansea. said:

“Dunvant Park is a valuable space in our community for socialising, playing and boosting our wellbeing. We wanted to help Friends of Dunvant make the park the best it can be, so we decided to donate to support the charity’s efforts and thank them for what they do.”

Natalie Slee, an Amazon employee in Swansea, added:

“I love spending time at Dunvant Park with my family. It’s a lovely place to enjoy the benefits of being outdoors. I’m glad we’re able to give the park a boost as a team at Amazon.”

Louise Gibbard, Secretary at Friends at Dunvant Park said:

“Thank you to David and the entire Amazon team in Swansea. We are community-led team and we are appreciative of the support from you, our neighbours and friends.”

Community donations and employee volunteering are just two of the ways Amazon supports the communities where it operates. Amazon co-founded the Multibank initiative with former UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown to support families in need. ‘Cwtch Mawr’ Multibank opened in Swansea this year, with Faith in Families. The initiative has donated more than 5 million surplus goods to over 500,000 families across Wales, Scotland, Greater Manchester, London, and Tees Valley.

Amazon has supported more than one million students across the UK with free STEM education programmes through Amazon Future Engineer and helps community organisations transport meals and other essentials to families in need through its pro bono logistics programme, Amazon Local Good.

Amazon partners with Comic Relief and is the official home of the charity’s iconic Red Nose. Together with its employees, customers, and partners, Amazon has raised over £4.8 million to fund projects that support people across the UK, and around the world.
