Local Cardiff charity, City Hospice, is holding its annual Light Up A Life Remembrance Service to remember and celebrate the lives of loved ones.

The free service will take place on December 1 in the grounds of the hospice in Whitchurch and will feature a variety of Christmas carols, performances and readings from local schools and organisations before the Christmas tree lights are switched on.

Performers will include Llanishen High School Choir, Côr Caerdydd, CytSain Choir and Perfect Pitch, a string quartet featuring students from year eight upwards from Howell’s School, Llandaff.

During the evening, those attending will have the opportunity to write a personal message on a memory tag and hang it on the Christmas tree.

Throughout the Light Up A Life campaign, which runs until December 31, people can also leave dedications on a ‘Virtual Star in the Sky’, City Hospice’s popular digital feature. The ‘Virtual Star in the Sky’ allows people to make a donation and leave a message of remembrance on a virtual star in the Cardiff skyline in memory of their loved ones.

All donations made during the campaign period will go twice as far, thanks to match funding by The Hodge Foundation.

Funds raised will help City Hospice continue to provide nursing and essential care for its patients, in addition to bereavement support and counselling services for families. The only provider of home-based specialist palliative care in the capital, the charity supports patients who are living with life limiting and terminal illness.

Liz Booyse, Chief Executive of City Hospice, said: “We are looking forward to welcoming friends, families and members of the local community to our Remembrance Service. The festive season and Christmas itself can be difficult when you have lost a loved one, and we hope our service will provide comfort and joy as we come together and remember those dear to us.”
