Work is set to commence this Autumn on a £4.3 million innovative housing development in Radyr, Cardiff.
In addition to providing much-needed social housing in South Wales, parts of the development have been specifically designed to cater for the needs of individuals with physical disabilities.
The bespoke development, being built by Hale Construction in partnership with Taff Housing Association, has been designed with good wheelchair access, enabling physically disabled residents to access their homes without relying on the assistance of a carer in many cases.
Construction of the 36 units on De Clare Drive in Radyr is expected to begin soon, after the designs were were approved in May 2018. The development includes 18 one-bedroom apartments, 10 two-bedroom apartments and eight three-bedroom homes – four of which will be suitable for wheelchair users.
The development will also create local jobs and in-demand construction apprenticeships.
Elaine Ballard, chief executive of Taff Housing Association, said:
“It’s very pleasing to see this scheme getting underway, and we’re delighted to be working with Hale Construction again. These homes will be very much in demand, especially as we are including properties for people with physical disabilities. We will be keeping an eye on the progress and are looking forward to completion of our first project in the Radyr area next year.”
Jonathan Hale, chairman of JG Hale Group, said:
“We’re delighted once again to be working alongside Taff Housing Association to improve the lives of those needing support in our communities. As a company, we constantly strive to deliver projects that will successfully accommodate each specific individual – and with the planned growth of Hale Construction, we will be able to do so more and more.”
Steve Griffiths, business development manager at JG Hale Group, added:
“Our first commitment when we begin a development in a residential area, is to ensure that we minimise disruption as much as possible. We will be working with local groups and all aspects of the community to ensure everyone’s experience of the development is a positive one.”
JG Hale Construction was established in 1996 and is on course to become one of the largest construction companies in Wales. They are currently working in conjunction with a number of Welsh housing associations across the whole of South Wales creating different schemes to benefit local communities.
