WREXHAM based hospice Nightingale House is feeling the pinch as the cost-of-living crisis worsens and households tighten outgoings.

Since energy and fuel prices soared earlier this year supporters have been forced to reconsider their spending regardless of where they would prefer to see their money going. Since the start of 2022 and the media coverage of rising living costs, Nightingale House has seen a drop in donations of 36%. Their lottery, supported by thousands of local people, has also seen a dip in memberships which people have been forced to cancel because of the rise of household bills.

“Families are facing financial struggles and we wholeheartedly understand that there are other priorities for many of our supporters. We, ourselves are feeling the pinch and envisage this getting harder over the next 12 months.”

“As an organisation, like many others, we have worked hard to survive the pandemic during the past few years. We are now facing further challenges in finding the necessary funds to run hospice services when we know it is a strain for all.”

“We are very grateful of all the support we continue to receive from the local community, in so many ways. We hope that the public will continue to help whenever they are able.”

– Laura Parry, Head of Income Generation

The hospice provides completely free-of-charge services to patients and their families across a catchment area stretching from Wrexham, Flintshire and East Denbighshire to Barmouth and the border towns including Oswestry and Whitchurch.

For those who can help, an easy ‘cost effective’ way of supporting the hospice during this difficult time would be to support Nightingale House’s Charity shops across the area, in Wrexham, Oswestry, Mold and Buckley, or to support the on-site café – this can make a significant contribution towards maintaining services for those with life-limiting illnesses within palliative care.   Alternatively please consider signing up for the hospice weekly lottery draw. This would be a contribution of just £1 per week and players are in with a chance of winning £2500 each week.
