Council seeks applications for brand new homes in former YMCA, Llanelli

Carmarthenshire County Council’s most recent housing development located in the former YMCA, Llanelli is now ready and waiting for residents to call the new apartments home.

Made up of 8 x 2-bedroom upper floor apartments accessed via a communal entrance way, each has its own parking space fitted with electric vehicle charging point and have been developed to provide energy efficient accommodation for local people.

The Council is now seeking applications from residents made up of either a single adult, a couple who live together as partners or a household with one child who meet at least one of the following criteria:

  • Households where a member is in full time work or on a retirement income
  • Households with a disability where a member is working part-time and can afford rent payments
  • Households where a member works part-time and can afford rent payments
  • People working Llanelli town centre
  • Owners of established or start-up businesses in Llanelli
  • Households where at least one member is a key worker (who can demonstrate a need for accommodation to take up or sustain the offer of permanent employment in Carmarthenshire)
  • Current social housing tenants who are under-occupying their home and wish to downsize

In the first instance applicants who can demonstrate a community connection to the Llanelli Town area which includes Elli, Bigyn, Glanymor and Tyshia wards will be considered. If there are no applicants with a community connection, the Council may consider other applicants who have expressed a preference to live in that community.

A Local Lettings Policy has been developed for the new homes to ensure that priority is given to local people most suited to these homes.

Due to the building having communal entrances and the accommodation being to the upper floors, the new homes will adopt a no pets policy.

Cllr Linda Davies Evans, Cabinet Member for Homes said: “We are now seeking applications for these modern, energy efficient apartments from residents who have a local connection to Llanelli and meet the criteria set out in the Local Lettings Policy.

We also welcome applications from those who meet the criteria but are not currently on the housing register.”
