Denbighshire County Council scheme shortlisted in LGC awards 2025

Denbighshire County Council has been included in the shortlist for the LGC Awards 2025 in the ‘Diversity and Inclusion’ category, along with nine other local authorities.
The Adult Social Care & Homelessness Service’s ‘Leading with Pride: Belonging for refugees and all’ scheme involves the work of two different teams within the Council.
The first project encompasses the Homelessness Team’s work on the Tŷ Pride project, which provides vital support for LGBTQ+ young people, helping to offer them with an affirming space. Tŷ Pride represents a pioneering initiative, which is highly significant for addressing a critical gap in support services for LGBTQ+ homeless youth across Wales.
By providing tailored, affirming, and inclusive housing and support, Tŷ Pride ensures that young people have access to a safe and welcoming environment where they can thrive without fear of discrimination or rejection based on their sexual orientation or gender identity.
The project is run by Llamau, in partnership with Denbighshire County Council and local LGBTQ+ group Viva.
The second project involves Denbighshire Council’s Resettlement Team, and their work on the UK Resettlement scheme. This project aims to ensure that refugees receive the support needed to integrate and thrive in Denbighshire.
Together, these projects champion inclusion, dignity and a sense of belonging to vulnerable people in the community.
Councillor Rhys Thomas, Lead Member for Housing and Communities said:
“This nomination is well-earned, and is a testament to the vision and willingness of both teams to help others in a time of need.
I would like to thank both of these teams for their work on this scheme. Their amazing impact and hard work has now been recognised on a national scale.
I wish them all the best for the awards finals in June.”
