In a recent statistics document released by Welsh Government which charted the number of additional affordable housing units delivered across Wales for April 2023 to March 2024, Denbighshire is ranked second in North Wales for delivery per 10,000 households, and in the top five in Wales overall.

Of all 22 local authorities in Wales, Denbighshire was one of the six authorities that has rates higher than the Wales average, and one of only two included that was situated in North Wales, along with Anglesey.

In 2024, 154 affordable housing units were delivered within the County, a 7.7% increase on the previous year and 79% of the affordable homes delivered in Denbighshire were new builds.

Towards the end of last year, Denbighshire Housing’s Llys Llen housing Development was completed in Prestatyn, which is a development that comprises of 14 one-bedroomed energy-efficient apartments, and two non-residential units on the ground floor level, helping with both housing need and the Council’s energy efficiency plans.

Also recently opened is Denbighshire Housing’s Llys Elizabeth, in Rhyl. Designed for people aged 55 and over, the development at the site has seen the creation of a total of 12 new homes comprising eight two-bedroom apartments and 4 one-bedroom apartments, which are situated in the building. Each home is designed to offer high levels of energy efficiency to support the new tenants with the cost of living and help Denbighshire County Council and Wales achieve its targets of lowering carbon emissions.

These new homes are part of Denbighshire County Council’s continuing commitment to tackling housing waiting times by addressing the need for more social housing provision in the county.

Councillor Rhys Thomas, Lead Member for Housing and Communities said:

“As a Council, we know that meeting the housing needs of all Denbighshire residents is essential, and, with our partners in the Social Housing sector, we are striving to ensure that sufficient good quality housing is available to those who need it most.

“Since 2020, we have delivered over 650 affordable, energy-efficient, and high-quality homes to residents in Denbighshire. We are committed to providing more homes across the County for our residents, in line with national and local targets.”
