International Youth Day on 12 August offers a great opportunity to inject new thinking and energy into the way organisations go about their business.

There are 3.75 million young people, aged 16 to 24, in employment in the UK currently, and another 3.02 million who are economically inactive, according to a House of Commons briefing paper.

The international day of celebration offers organisations the opportunity to not only listen to what young people say but to give them the opportunity for work experience or paid employment.

The theme this year has yet to be announced, though last year focussed on how to empower youth to build a sustainable future for the world.

Events to mark the day might include workshops, special events and discussions and it provides the opportunity for businesses to book a speaker to spark discussions internally.

He said: “All too often, younger voices are overlooked and this means passing up valuable opportunities to literally inject new thinking into an organisation.

“This day is an opportunity for business leaders to plan ahead and let younger voices express their thoughts on the latest technology, health issues, emerging trends and much more.
