Faith in Families fundraising event raises £6000 to help children in poverty
A charity fundraising evening held by Sturgess Mortgage Solutions for Swansea charity Faith in Families has raised £6000.
The event, which took place in the Swansea.com Stadium on July 14, was attended by 160 guests from local businesses.
The money raised will support Faith in Families’ work to support families living in poverty. The charity delivers support through six cornerstone projects: Bonymaen Community Cwtch, Clase Community Cwtch and Teilo’s Community Cwtch, all of which provide a parent and toddler group a lunch club, a breakfast club, after school and summer holiday activities, community events and training courses. Teilo’s Community Cwtch also has an affordable childcare setting.
Faith in Families CEO Cherrie Bija said:
“We want to thank Sturgess Mortgages from the bottom of our hearts for organising such a wonderful evening. A hugely enjoyable time was had by all and were delighted with the money raised, which will go to deliver support Swansea families who urgently need help.
“In Swansea alone, there are over 70,700 children, and nearly 25,000 of them are living in real poverty today. It breaks my heart to think about all the essential things these children are missing out on. Today, poverty is not just about feeling excluded; it’s about having a carefree childhood stolen away.”
She added that Faith in Families has stepped up its support over the summer, when many children are going hungry.
“While we may not be able to change the circumstances children face, we can provide them with something they desperately need—hope. We are offering opportunities for these young ones to laugh, have fun, and have a belly full of food.
“But Faith in Families doesn’t stop there. We also provide families with the guidance they need to navigate the support systems. We bring communities together, creating spaces for everyone to learn and grow. We teach young people how to handle their emotions and address mental health challenges. I genuinely believe we are an amazing force for change, not just in Swansea, but in reshaping the face of poverty and how it is understood, and the support we received through the Sturgess Mortgages fundraising event means the world to us and to those we support.”
