The Principality Building Society has seen its position as one of the best places to work in the UK soar within a year.
The largest building society in Wales ranked 13th in the super large employer category of the UK Best Workplace™ awards by Great Place to Work®, up from 36th place in the large employer category last year.
The Best Workplace™ award is based on the results of Trust Index© employee survey and Culture Audit©. These both show that Principality has created a diverse, inclusive culture that rewards colleagues and teams for outstanding behaviours and celebrates its unsung heroes within the business. In feedback from Great Place to Work®, Principality was praised for its colleague-led skills exchange network, its approach to development through initiatives like the annual ‘learning at work week’ and its support of various networks including its ‘Cuppa Club’ where colleagues champion personal development and growth.
Another key strength identified is the fact that the society is rooted in supporting people in its communities, with more than 400 colleagues now Dementia Friends through in-house training. It also stood out for its strong financial education work in schools across Wales, as well as helping underprivileged groups in communities and its charity partnerships.
Steve Hughes, CEO of Principality Building Society, said:
“We are very honoured to be ranked so highly, the positive movement within a year is testament to the brilliant people we have working for us. We strive to be an inclusive business, employing colleagues who are passionate about doing the right thing for Members. Supporting our local communities and helping them prosper is core to what we do as a mutual building society.”
Rhian Langham, Chief People Officer at Principality Building Society, said:
“Our culture is renowned for being friendly, helpful, open and inclusive where we actively encourage colleagues to be themselves at work. Our people are our most important asset and make us stand out in the finance sector. They’re the driving force behind our success and we’re committed to creating a great place to work and making Principality an employer people would love to work for.”
UK’s Best Workplace™ Awards are the ‘gold standard’ of employer awards. Independently assessed through a rigorous process, those on the list have proven they have cultivated a workplace culture built on trust and engagement, supported by innovative people management practices.
Great Place to Work’s Managing Director Benedict Gautrey, said:
“This year’s Best Workplace™ award recipients represent organisations that lead the way in placing workplace culture, leadership and the overall employee experience at the forefront of their collective strategies. Principality’s well-deserved ranking is centred around a personalised approach to employee empowerment, recognition and appreciation. In their second year of being named as one of UK’s Best Workplaces™, Principality’s commitment to optimising the employee experience, has had significant impact on not only their business, but also the communities they serve.”
