Conwy County Borough Council has awarded over £80,000 to help stock recognised food banks across the county in time for Christmas.

The Council received funding from Welsh Government to support food poverty during the cost of living crisis

The funding allows the food banks to continue producing food parcels for residents within the county who are eligible for food bank support. Food banks in Llanfairfechan, Conwy, Llandudno, Colwyn Bay and Abergele have had their stocks replenished thanks to this financial support.

Funds were allocated according to the amount of food each food bank distributed.

Cllr Charlie McCoubrey, Council Leader, said: “This is clearly a very challenging time for everybody, but no more so than for our most vulnerable residents. This support will directly help those in our communities who are most in-need and I hope it goes some way to making a difference.

“There is a tremendous community spirit around the county and I would ask everyone to look out for each other and check on neighbours and vulnerable people in our towns and villages.

“No matter how small, every positive and kind action can make a real difference.”
