FSG Strengthens Commitment to Future Workforce with Ongoing Investment in Apprenticeships

Facility Services Group (FSG) continues to demonstrate its commitment to the next generation of workers through its ongoing investment in apprentices.
Over the past three years, FSG has enrolled five new apprentices, all of which will be offered full time employment within the business when they complete their training over the next two years.
Through structured training and hands-on experience, FSG provides young professionals with the skills and knowledge required to excel in the industry. By investing in apprenticeship training, FSG ensures a steady pipeline of skilled talent to meet the evolving demands of the facility management sector.
Cal Hughes-Davies, Electrical Services Manager at FSG, commented: “Our apprentices are a core part of our long-term strategy to develop skilled professionals who can contribute to the industry for years to come. We believe in nurturing talent, providing opportunities for growth, and ensuring that our workforce remains adaptable to the latest industry standards. Seeing our apprentices progress through academic and work-based learning to become qualified tradespersons is incredibly rewarding.
“The ever advancing technologies available to the built environment from design through to maintenance is a constant. As a business we recognise the advantages of engaging with the next generation to create the future skilled persons, passing on key skills as well as harnessing the knowledge of young talent.”
Among the apprentices currently training with FSG, Jack Smith, David Reed and Jack Soproniuk share their experiences:
Jack Smith, 25 years old, Electric Technical Installation apprentice, said: “After school I went to Gower College Swansea and studied creative media as well as a public services course, but they didn’t feel quite right, which is why I’m so happy to now be doing something I love.
“There’s so much pressure to know what you want to do at 16, that actually, it’s ok if you change your mind. That’s what life is about and I’ve not looked back. I never thought I’d end up working in a trade, but the FSG apprenticeship scheme and the career prospects for electricians was so attractive to me. I’ll qualify in the next couple of months and I’m looking forward to starting my full-time, permanent role with FSG.”
David Reed, 28 years old, Multiskilled Carpentry and Joinery Apprentice, said: “I decided to switch from my job as a chef to a multiskilled carpentry role a few years back. So a complete change in career but it’s been fantastic. When I initially joined FSG, I supported the team with reactive work and a year in, I decided to make it official and begin my carpentry apprenticeship. I’m three years into my four-year training, and can’t wait to fully qualify.”
Jack Soproniuk, 25 years old, Plumbing & Heating apprentice, said: “I always knew from a young age that I was going to go into a trade of some sort. When I was little, you’d find me building things with my hands – especially small birdboxes that I’d build with my grandfather. I thought I’d go into carpentry initially, but after completing work experience as a plumber, I soon realised that’s where my passions lay. I love completing my apprenticeship with FSG and have loved working on buildings such as Swansea Arena and Parc y Scarlets. No two days are the same and I couldn’t recommend an apprenticeship enough.”
As FSG continues to expand its training and employment initiatives, the company remains dedicated to shaping the future workforce of the facility management industry. By offering a structured pathway from training to full-time employment, FSG is equipping the next generation with the tools and experience needed to succeed within the industry.
