Former darts world champion Gerwyn Price is proving to be a big success not just in one sport. The Welshman has announced he is going to take part in a charity boxing match later this year in what will be the latest challenge for the Iceman.

Price began his professional sports career as a rugby league player and he represented Wales at various age groups before deciding to switch to darts, a choice he has not gone on to regret. He has a strong interest in a range of different sports, which is why he is trying his hand at boxing next against former professional boxer Rhys Evans.

It is not just boxing that Price is involved in, he is also a greyhound owner and ambassador for the GBGB (Greyhound Board of Great Britain). He will represent the organisation across their biggest events, including the Greyhound Derby where Explosive Boy is the 20/1 favourite in the greyhound betting with Betfair for the flagship race in the sport.

Price is also a greyhound owner himself and given how competitive he is, he will be hoping he can land the Greyhound Derby trophy one day. Many of his dogs have darts-related names, including Grandslam Champ who gave him his first major TV success at Hove.

The greyhound enthusiast had a runner in the Irish Greyhound Derby in 2021. He is likely to have entries in a number of the major races in the sport in 2022 in what may be a big year for him as a greyhound owner.

Price Tops PDC Rankings in Phenomenal Rise in Darts

The man from Markham is now ranked as the number one player in the PDC rankings. He has won six major events with the organisation. Along with Jonny Clayton, he also prevailed at the PDC World Cup of Darts for Wales.

It was his victory in the 2021 PDC World Darts Championship final against Gary Anderson that helped Price add his name alongside some of the greatest darts players of all time. The Iceman came out on top 7-4 at the Alexandra Palace in London.

Price held his nerve in the final against the two-time world champion to ensure the trophy headed back to Wales with him. Unfortunately for the 36-year-old, he was unable to defend his crown 12 months later, as he was eliminated in the quarter-finals in a close encounter against Michael Smith.

The former hooker is one of the top eight players in the 2022 Premier League of Darts this year. He is often the pantomime villain with the darts crowd, a role he handles very well. Price has already hit two nine-dart finishes in the competition this year and he has featured in front of his home crowd at Cardiff in week one.

If his latest challenge in the boxing ring proves to be a success, who knows what the talented sportsman will try his hand at next.
