Grants available for food related community initiatives in Denbighshire.

Denbighshire

Community initiatives delivering food related projects around Denbighshire are being encouraged to apply for capital grants through Cogog.

Cogog is a multi-agency partnership who work collaboratively alongside local community groups to reduce food waste and food poverty in the County through developing sustainable food initiatives.

Since its launch in March 2024, the partnership has provided support and advice to its members as well as over £200,000 worth of funding to assist in the delivery of their community food projects around the County.

A total of twenty-five applications were successfully funded in 2024, through capital and revenue grants worth over £145,000 to support existing food initiatives as well as developing new ones. In addition to this, thirteen community groups benefited from small grants to purchase necessary equipment for cooking, food storage and preparation, and tools for community food gardens and allotments. A further twenty-six paid subscriptions to Fareshare were made through grant funding to provide weekly deliveries of fresh foods for twelve months.

Following the success of previous grant funding, Cogog are now encouraging other constituted organisations within Denbighshire to apply for their new round of capital funding of up to £10,000.

Tom Barham, Chief Officer of the Denbighshire Voluntary Services Council (DVSC) said:

“We’re very lucky to have so many volunteer groups dedicating their time to address food poverty and to promote healthy eating in their local communities. We are also proud to be able to offer guidance and support to help these groups to keep on providing their services within the County through the Cogog grant schemes”.

Councillor Rhys Thomas, Lead Member for Housing and Communities said:

“Having worked as a volunteer I know that volunteer groups such as these are the backbone of many communities within the County, and it’s important that they get the support they need to continue the good work that they do. We encourage groups such as these to apply to the grants that Cogog are offering to help deliver existing projects or further develop new ideas”.

The closing date for submitted applications is Friday 31st January 2025. If you would like further grant information, or to request an application pack, please contact DVSC on 01824 702441 or email samantha@dvsc.co.uk
