Support has surged from members of the public for communities in South Wales in the wake of Storm Dennis.

A fundraiser set up to help locals whose homes and businesses have been devastated by extreme flooding across the region has already raised in excess of £13,000.

Green Man Festival and its charitable arm, Green Man Trust, created the online scheme to try and raise £15,000 to help in the recovery and clean-up after the storms.

Fiona Stewart, director and owner of Green Man Festival and chair of Green Man Trust, said: “Seeing the destruction of the recent storms in South Wales is truly devastating but in true Welsh style everyone has really pulled together, which is why we decided to run this appeal to help our communities.

“We’re putting in a total of £10,000 to get it started and any other donations are massively appreciated”

Green Man is Wales’ largest festival, recognised for its independent, ethical and inclusive spirit.

The ethos of creating opportunities runs throughout the event – from developing emerging artists and offering real-world training to people from all walks of life, to encouraging engagement with science and bringing positive change to communities in Wales.

Green Man Trust was created to give all of these opportunities a life of their own and extend the festival’s artistic, educational and social philanthropic ventures beyond the event itself.

Fiona added: “Seeing the community that supports us every year face such horrendous conditions has been truly awful and so we wanted to do as much as we can to help them. We have been overwhelmed by the response to our appeal by Green Man festival go-ers and locals alike.”
