Groundbreaking Signals Start of Work on Affordable New Homes in Holyhead

Social homes provider ClwydAlyn welcomed Plaid Cymru MP for Ynys Môn, Llinos Medi, and Ynys Môn County Councillor Robin Wyn Williams to a groundbreaking ceremony for a new development of 54 high-quality, energy-efficient homes at Cae Bothan in Anglesey.
With affordable rented homes in short supply, news has been welcomed that ClwydAlyn, in partnership with Isle of Anglesey County Council and Welsh Government, will construct 54 affordable homes on the edge of bustling port town Holyhead.
Made up of 20 x 1-bed personal access apartments, 10 x 2-bed homes, 12 x 3-bed homes, 6 x 4-bed homes, 4 x 2-bed bungalows and two wheelchair adapted bungalows, all the properties will feature air source heat pumps, solar-electricity panels
and will be positioned to maximise solar gain and natural daylight.
‘Modern Methods of Construction’ will ensure that the build process uses as many natural and sustainable materials as possible, sourced from local manufacturers and suppliers to keep the carbon footprint low.
The £10.2 million development is being built on behalf of ClwydAlyn by local North Wales contractor K&C Construction, and is partly funded by a Welsh Government, Social Housing Grant (SHG).
Helen Williams, Development Project Manager at ClwydAlyn said: “Quality, affordable homes are the foundation of people’s lives. We’re hopeful that these safe, warm and energy efficient homes will enrich the health and well-being of local families and individuals.
“We’re incredibly pleased to see work start at Cae Bothan; and anticipate that these 54 high-quality, modern homes will be completed by Spring 2027.”
Plaid Cymru MP for Ynys Môn, Llinos Medi said: “A housing shortage and a growing number of island residents facing homelessness is a serious problem. These homes will provide much-needed housing for many once completed.”
Councillor Robin Wyn Williams said: “This housing project for 54 new affordable homes in Holyhead forms part of the Isle of Anglesey County Council’s commitment to meeting local housing needs and supporting local people to live in affordable quality homes in their own communities.”
He added, “Our long-term aim is to work in partnership with our Registered Social Housing providers to deliver hundreds of new high quality affordable properties on the Island.”
K&C Construction’s Managing Director, Carl Roberts, said: “K&C Construction is delighted to be delivering this project on behalf of Clwyd Alyn, marking another important and much-needed affordable housing scheme created within our longstanding partnership. This development is the result of close collaboration with key stakeholders to address local housing needs, while also ensuring the protection and enhancement of the local environment in such a beautiful location. We remain committed to creating sustainable communities that benefit both residents and the wider area.”
