Hensol Castle Distillery offers whisky lovers the chance to age their own Welsh single malt at home

Hensol-Castle-New-Make

Hensol Castle Distillery is giving whisky enthusiasts an exclusive opportunity to age their own Welsh single malt at home, with a limited run of just 150 one-litre oak casks available to purchase from 10am on March 1st, 2025. Each cask is filled with 70cl of un-aged single malt spirit (50% ABV), distilled on-site at Hensol Castle Distillery, allowing buyers to experience the maturation process firsthand and craft a whisky that is uniquely their own.

This rare release follows the recent announcement of Hensol Castle Distillery’s collaboration with Tiny Rebel Brewery to create a unique Welsh single malt whisky – a project that has been three and a half years in the making. The whisky, which won’t be available for general sale until 2026, is made from a bespoke 100% malted barley beer wash, contract brewed by Tiny Rebel over an 18-month period to a recipe developed by Hensol Castle Distillery’s Master Distiller, Dai Wakely, and Tiny Rebel’s Head Brewer, Mark Gammons.

Now, for a limited time, fans of the distillery can take home part of this pioneering project. The one-litre oak cask and un-aged spirit combination allows buyers to replicate part of the journey that Hensol Castle’s Head Distiller, Kyle Jones, and Technical Distiller, Carl Andrews, have undertaken over the past year. Their expertise in craft liquid production has led to the evolution of flavour notes from banana and bubble gum in the early stages to rich tones of vanilla, dried fruit and sweet spice after 12 months resting in ex-bourbon barrels.

Priced at £124.99 per cask, these limited barrels are expected to sell out quickly. Dai Wakely, Master Distiller at www.hensolcastledistillery.com, commented:

“This is a unique opportunity for whisky lovers to take home a piece of our journey and witness the maturation process themselves. The beauty of whisky is in its evolution, and with these limited barrels, buyers can influence that journey to craft a flavour profile that suits their own tastes.

“Our collaboration with Tiny Rebel Brewery has resulted in a spirit of incredible quality and character. We’re excited to share part of that process with whisky enthusiasts who want to get hands-on with ageing their own Welsh single malt.”
