Homebuilder Steps Up to Raise Money for Swansea School

Edenstone Homes team training for Three Welsh Peaks

STAFF at the Edenstone Group are stepping up to tackle the Three Peaks tomorrow (Saturday, June 8) in aid of a good cause close to home.

Employees of the Magor-based business are raising money via the Edenstone Foundation to fund improvement works to outside spaces at Birchgrove Comprehensive School, in the Vale of Swansea, to be used by pupils with special educational needs.

They were inspired by the company’s build director, Mike Huddleston, whose son has autism and attends the school.

Mike explained: “The Edenstone Foundation receives a proportion of the proceeds of the homes sold by the Edenstone Group but rather than simply making grants we also want to actively raise money and provide practical help to good causes in the community. I nominated Birchgrove Comprehensive School as they have an outdoor area that’s currently unused but could make a great space for children like my son who have autism.

“Colleagues have been really supportive and we’ve been going on weekly training walks ahead of tackling the Three Welsh Peaks together. One of our in-house design team who usually plans the communal facilities on our developments will work with the school to design a scheme and then we will carry out the works over the summer holidays. The walk and the work itself is a great way for the team to bond.”

A group of 15 Edenstone Group employees will take on the Three Welsh Peaks tomorrow (Saturday, June 8).

It’s hoped they will raise £5,000 towards materials and that suppliers and sub-contractors will support the project.

The plans for the outside space include an astro turf area, netball hoop, gazebo, covered seating area and low level climbing wall.

Lindsay Ford, from Birchgrove Comprehensive School, said: “It’s great to see a business such as Edenstone stepping forward – literally – to support the school by raising funds and offering practical help. We wish the walkers well with the Three Welsh Peaks Challenge and are really excited about their plans to help improve the outdoor space for the benefit of pupils with special educational needs.”
