Gower Holiday Cottage owner launches #viewsnotvisits campaign to discourage tourism during coronavirus crisis

As reports continue to emerge of people breaking lockdown rules to visit Gower beauty spots, much to the anger of worried locals, a holiday cottage business owner has launched a new social media campaign encouraging people to share beautiful pictures of Gower online rather than than visit the area.

Jon Dickson, owner of Hael Farm Cottages says:

“I can fully understand the appeal of Gower, it’s a beautiful area. My wife Julie and I are devastated that our regular visitors won’t be coming this Spring, we were almost fully booked from April through to September this year, however people’s safety has to come first.

“Our pledge is that, for our clients, we will continue to share beautiful Gower photographs and news from the area on social media in our #viewsnotvisits campaign, and will be encouraging other tourist businesses in Gower to do the same until it is safe for people to visit us in person again.

“It is so tempting to come down for the day if you are within driving distance, but with a two week symptom-free incubation period, you could well be bringing the virus with you, which will bring devastation to an isolated area which has no hospitals – the nearest emergency hospital to Rhossili, where we have seen visitors continue to flock despite lockdown rules, is 45 minutes away.”

“If you love Gower as much as we do, stay at home and exercise locally, then our friendly locals will give you a warm welcome to our beautiful beaches when this crisis is over. Until then, lets keep it to #viewsnotvisits – we’ll be doing our part by sharing beautiful views to lift people’s spirits on social media.”
