Housing developer’s chari-tee golf day raises £11,400 for Welsh charities
Leading partnerships developer Lovell has raised £11,400 for three local charities at its 28th annual charity golf day in Cardiff.
The event was held at Cottrell Park Golf Resort, near the developer’s regional head office in the Greenmeadow Springs Business Park in Tongwynais, and saw 23 teams compete. Golfers included Lovell employees as well as teams representing its subcontractors, partners and consultants.
To finish off the day, attendees took part in a charity auction, which consisted of prizes donated by Lovell clients and its supply chain, and were treated to a talk from guest speaker Shane Williams MBE.
Over the past 27 years, the Lovell golf day has raised more than £110,000 for charity.
This year, the chosen charities are Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospital Charity, Llamau and Marie Curie Cymru.
The Noah’s Ark Charity provides emotional support for children at Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospital and their families, funds new medical equipment and facilities, and strives to make the hospital a less frightening place.
Llamau is the leading homelessness charity in Wales, supporting vulnerable young people and women. The charity assists those in need by offering a safe place to stay, supporting them to live independently by teaching the necessary skills and confidence, and helping them back into education or employment.
Marie Curie Cymru provides end of life care and support for more than 3,500 people in Wales living with a terminal illness each year, both at their own homes and from its hospice in Penarth.
Gemma Clissett, regional partnerships director at Lovell, said: “We are so proud to have raised £11,400 for these three incredible charities. Each one of them provides an invaluable service to the people of Wales, and we are delighted to have supported them.
“Our charity golf day was a huge success, and all of us at Lovell would like to thank everyone who took part for making it such an enjoyable day and for helping us to raise such a fantastic amount.”
Morgan Hughes, Communications Officer for the Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospital Charity, said: “The Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospital for Wales cares for around 73,000 children a year – enough to fill the Principality Stadium. For the past 23 years, the Noah’s Ark Charity has been committed to providing the children’s hospital with state-of-the-art equipment, facilities, and family support services, helping to ensure the best treatment and outcomes possible for its young patients. Thanks to companies like Lovell, the charity can continue to create brighter todays and better tomorrows for the children of Wales.”
Michael Houghton, Corporate Partnership Manager at Llamau said: “We are thrilled to be joined by Lovell on a mission to create a Wales without homelessness and we absolutely believe that it is possible. We supported 10,000 people in Wales last year to leave homelessness behind for good, and helped nearly 400 families to rekindle their homes across Wales.
“Lovell’s support will continue our preventative measures, which are at the core of what we do, helping young people get the start in life that we all deserve, while saving the Welsh public £300 million in social services last year.”
Sara Bass, Head of Fundraising for Wales at Marie Curie Cymru, said: “We were delighted to be chosen as one of the charities for Lovell’s charity golf day. Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, we are able to offer our services free of charge, helping us to support more terminally ill patients and their families across Wales.”
