Roulette wheels are spun all over the world, both online and within brick-and-mortar casino establishments.

With this in mind, we wanted to explore deeper into one bet type you can make when playing Roulette – inside bets.

Some players may not be aware that in Roulette there are two main types of bets – inside bets and outside bets.

Carry on reading to learn more about these bets, so you can potentially place them in your next live casino game.

What is an inside bet?

An inside bet involves placing a wager in the form of a betting chip(s) on specific numbers or a small group of numbers within the interior grid of the Roulette table.

Inside bets generally have higher odds and higher potential payouts compared to outside bets, but the odds of succeeding with these bets are lower. This is because inside bets focus on just a few numbers, or in some cases, a single number, whereas outside bets focus on a collection of numbers. This means there are more chances of correctly predicting the random outcome – but even with an outside bet, a win is never guaranteed.

How to place an inside bet

Inside bets can be placed in the following ways:

Straight Bet: Betting on a single number by placing your chip directly on that number.

The payout for a winning straight bet is 35 to 1, meaning you win 35 times your original wager.

Split Bet: Betting on two adjacent numbers on the table layout by placing your chip on the line between them. This means your bet covers both numbers, so if either one of those numbered pockets holds the ball at the end of the game, you’ll win.

The payout for a winning split bet is 17 to 1.

Street Bet: A street bet allows you to bet on a row of three numbers by placing your chip at the end of the row.

The payout for a winning street bet is 11 to 1.

Corner Bet: Place a wager on four numbers that form a square on the Roulette table by placing your chip at the intersection where the four numbers meet. This means that if one of the four numbers is the winning number, you’ll receive a payout.

The payout for a winning corner bet is 8 to 1.

Double Street Bet: Betting on two adjacent rows of three numbers each, covering six numbers in total on the Roulette table layout. You place your chip at the end of the two rows and wait for the ball to potentially land in one of the six numbered compartments you’ve covered.

The payout for a winning double street bet is 5 to 1.

Basket Bet: A bet that can only be played in the American Roulette variation, where you place a wager on 0, 00, 1, 2, and 3 by placing your chip at the corner where 0 and 1 meet, or 00 and 3 meet.

The payout for a winning basket bet is 6 to 1.
