Investigations into wind turbine’s collapse
Work is taking place to determine what caused a 377ft wind turbine to collapse early on Monday morning at Mynydd Maesteg near the boundary between Bridgend County Borough and Rhondda Cynon Taf.
The turbine was one of 29 located at the remote Pant-y-Wal windfarm, which received planning consent in 2009 after the site was identified as being suitable for large-scale wind power development.
While the site itself is rural, the turbine’s collapse was heard by residents of valley communities such as Gilfach Goch and Evanstown.
Site owner Pennant Walters and turbine manufacturers Nordex haves been contacted, and further clarification is being sought.
