Last few places for SSAFA’s Southerndown golf tourney

With a little over six weeks to go, the Wales Charity Golf Day for SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity at Southerndown Golf Club in Ogmore-by-Sea is proving popular.

The tourney – taking place on Tuesday, June 13 at the downland/links course – dozens of players sign up in teams of four, and while spaces remain, Annie Lawrie, SSAFA’s Regional Fundraising Officer for Wales, said that with the event being so enthusiastically received, those interested should enter now to avoid disappointment.

Annie added:We’re really grateful to Southerndown Golf Club for hosting this day for SSAFA, and so pleased at the number of sign-ups we’ve had so far, which go to show both the love of golf and the admiration there is in Wales for the Armed Forces and charities that support them.

“Donations raised will go a long way to ensuring that SSAFA can continue to provide support to the Armed Forces’ community – whether serving, veterans, or their families – just as it has done since 1885.”

The Wales Charity Golf Day for SSAFA is for teams made up of four players with two scores for each hole being counted. There are prizes for Nearest the Pin at the seventh hole and for the Longest Drive at the 15th.

Tee times are from 8am until 2.30pm, and there will be free bacon rolls, tea, and coffee on arrival. The prize-giving ceremony begins at around 5pm.

Entry fees for Southerndown Golf Club members are £20 per person as a donation to SSAFA, while for non-members the fee is £50 per person (£20 donation to SSAFA and £30 green fees specially reduced from £65 for the event).
