With campsites in Wales hoping they can re-open at the end of the month, the UK camping season is finally getting underway and both seasoned campers and newbies will be planning their first trip away from home in months – and camping suppliers are keen to highlight the season’s latest models which were launched under lockdown conditions.
British tent manufacturer Coleman shares their favourite tents from their 2020 collection as campers in Wales wait eagerly for the First Minister’s formal announcement ahead of the planned re-opening date on July 25.
Shown above – Valdes Deluxe 6XL Air BlackOut (also available in a 4 person version)
With an extra-large living space and full head height throughout, the Valdes Deluxe 6XL Air tent will comfortably accommodate up to six people on the campsite. FastPitch™ Air technology enables this spacious tent to be pitched by one person, if needed, and multiple inflatable poles will ensure the structure remains secure even in high winds. Further protection against the elements is provided by an impressive hydrostatic head of 4500mm, welded seams and rain skirts, while both high and low ventilation reduces the risk of condensation.
The XXL bedrooms are spacious enough to comfortably accommodate larger double airbeds and feature Coleman’s revolutionary BlackOut Bedroom technology, which blocks 99% of daylight for a better night’s sleep and keeps the temperature inside the bedroom 5°C cooler during the day and up to 1°C warmer during the night. For maximum flexibility of space and to increase storage space, one of the double bedrooms can be removed and a sizeable porch extends the already spacious living area. A drop-down door provides a barrier free access to ensure ease of movement in and out of the tent, perfect for pushchairs, wheelchairs and to prevent tripping. The generously sized carry bag makes packing away an easy task and it also has wheels to help with transportation.
One of Coleman’s most popular tents gets an upgrade this year with the inclusion of BlackOut Bedroom technology, allowing you to have a luxurious lie on the campsite. This new tent provides ample living space, 360° views with windows covered in no-see-um mesh to protect you from biting insects and a hinged door gives a homely feel. A hydrostatic head of 4500mm and 50+ UV protection means this tent will keep you protected from the elements, while fire retardant materials and zip stoppers ensure peace of mind.
Easy to pack and quick to pitch, this smaller version of the beloved Octagon is perfect for teenagers who want their own space, couples and quick getaways. A distinctive tent that stands out from the crowd, the OctaGo offers 360° views, has colour-coded poles for easy pitching, an integrated groundsheet and a hydrostatic head of 2000mm. For safety, all materials are fire retardant and zip stoppers ensure that it is easy to let yourself out of the tent in a hurry.
As for Welsh campsite owners, many of them are hoping to make the best of the end of the season. Pembrokeshire campsite owner, Geraint Jenkins, owner of Dunston Hill Campsite, said they are looking forward to seeing campers again:
“We are five minutes drive from Newgale Beach and only 20 minutes from St. Davids, so normally by this time of year we’d already be really busy with both seasonal pitches and campers. It’s been strange to see things so quiet, and we’ve really enjoyed being able to recently welcome back our caravanners and motorhome owners. We’re looking forward to welcoming campers again soon and can’t wait to give them a warm welcome on 25 July!”
