Line-up for ‘ultimate’ Flintshire hamper announced as competition launches

The contents of the ‘ultimate’ Flintshire hamper have been announced as the social media competition to win the bundle gets underway.

The promotion will run across the Explore Flintshire Instagram and Facebook accounts and will offer residents the chance to win a hamper of food and drink produced entirely within Flintshire.

The hamper will contain six items, with a range of delicacies from pastries to dairy making the final cut.

The local hamper is part of a campaign by Flintshire County Council to showcase the county’s food and drink producers and highlight why you don’t need to leave the county to find some of the best food and drink around.

The items for the hamper itself were picked following a social media campaign which encouraged Flintshire residents to submit recommendations for items.

The submissions were then collated alongside recommendations from Naomi Spaven, who runs the food and drink Instagram account Little Welsh Foodie, to help curate the final six selections.

The competition winners will receive the following:

  • Runner bean chutney from Mostyn Kitchen Garden
  • A jam tart from Mold bakery Hulsons
  • Brown bread from Mynydd Isa baker Ian Purcell
  • Raspberry ripple cake from Rhosesmor-based Sandra’s Cakes
  • Homemade fudge from Mold sweetshop Spaven’s
  • Milkshakes from Trelogan’s Llaethdy Mynydd Mostyn Dairy

Naomi said: “With so many excellent food and drink items made all within Flintshire’s borders, it was incredibly difficult to help select the six items which make up the hamper.

“The items selected in the hamper not only help showcase exactly why the county is such a good location for those looking for some fantastic local cuisine, but they should provide a nice treat to enjoy no matter the weather.”

The giveaway will run to Friday 6 August, with those looking to snag a bundle needing to follow the Explore Flintshire accounts as well as like the competition post and either share it or tag up to three friends to put their name in the hat.

Only three hampers will be produced as part of the campaign, with the winners needing to collect their prize from Lesters Farm Shop in Buckley.

Flintshire County Council leader, Councillor Ian Roberts said: “Flintshire residents have been more than willing to point out the excellent local options we have here, and we would like to thank everybody who sent in submissions.

“The six items selected as part of this hamper are a fantastic cross-section of the county and the wide range of varied products which can be found within Flintshire.

“We encourage everyone who may not have tried these items before to get involved with the competition and even those who have had a handful of the items to try their luck, as they may just discover a new local product to enjoy.”
