Locals encouraged to help create the ultimate Flintshire hamper ahead of a competition

Flintshire residents are being encouraged to put forward suggestions of the best food and drink produced in the county to help create an ‘ultimate’ local hamper to be exclusively offered up for a competition.

With the nation moving into the warmer months, now is the perfect time to experience some new delicacies as you enjoy all the area has to offer.

And Flintshire County Council is launching a campaign to showcase why you don’t need to go further than the county border to find some of the best food and drink around.

The ‘ultimate’ Flintshire hamper will aim to be a collection of some of the top provisions coming from the county, with residents urged to help with the creation of the package by sending in their recommendations.

Along with local recommendations, Naomi Spaven, who runs the food and drink Instagram account Little Welsh Foodie, will be providing some of her knowledge and expertise in Flintshire goods to help create the final hamper.

Naomi said: “Now more than ever it is vital to help support Flintshire’s food and drink businesses and the fantastic products they bring to the table.

“By putting together some of the absolute best Flintshire has to offer, people can see just how lucky we are to have all these amazing products right on our doorstep.

“I ask everyone to send in their recommendations about the top food and drink items the county has to offer so we can truly make the ultimate hamper.”

The full contents of the hamper will be revealed in the coming weeks, with the collection to be bundled together and given away in a competition which will be run across the ‘Explore Flintshire’ social media pages.

Users will have to like and share a post from the accounts to put their name in the hat for the hampers, of which just three will be produced.

The winners will need to collect their hampers from Lesters Farm Shop in Buckley.

Flintshire’s Chief Officer for Planning, Environment and Economy, Andrew Farrow, said: “Whether it’s some of the wonderful fruit and vegetables coming from our county’s farms or the excellent sweets and goods which are produced here, Flintshire has a wide variety of fantastic food and drink.

“Through this hamper, we are hoping not only to create something which shows off what this area has to offer, but also encourage people to get out and see new parts of the county they may not have necessarily visited or experienced before.

“We cannot make this hamper without the public’s help and we are very keen to see all the excellent recommendations the residents of Flintshire come up with.”

To put forward a food or drink product which should be included in the ‘ultimate’ Flintshire hamper, please send your messages to the Explore Flintshire pages on social media – @explore_flintshire on Instagram or @exploreflintshire on Facebook.

Submissions for ideas for the hamper close at 5pm on Wednesday 7 July.
