Lovell selected to deliver over 100 new homes on the former Lansdowne Hospital site in Cardiff
Leading partnerships developer Lovell has been selected as the preferred developer on a design and build scheme on the former Lansdowne Hospital site in Canton, Cardiff.
Hafod has chosen Lovell as their partner to develop 106 new, energy efficient homes off Sanatorium Road, including 44 two, three and four-bedroom houses and 62 one and two-bedroom apartments split over three blocks.
38 of the new homes will be delivered for Cardiff Council as part of its drive to deliver its council-owned development programme, and the remaining properties will be managed by Hafod.
Lovell won the building contract due to its reputation for delivering high-quality homes whilst adhering to robust health and safety standards. Construction work is due to commence in October 2022.
The £24 million project will form part of Cardiff Council’s ambitious housing development programme to deliver 4,000 new homes over the next eight years.
James Duffett, regional managing director at Lovell, said: “We are very proud to have been awarded the project to regenerate the former Lansdowne Hospital. This development will revitalise the 100-year-old, fire-damaged hospital into a vibrant new community, with much-needed homes and sustainable public spaces.
“This is another great win for Lovell, and forms part of our ambitious growth plans. As a five-star developer which has signed the Placemaking Wales Charter, we take our pledge to deliver high-quality homes and places that promote happiness and well-being very seriously.
“We are looking forward to working with Hafod and Cardiff Council on this exciting scheme, and breathing a new lease of life into this derelict site.”
Cadwgan Thomas, Head of Development at Hafod, said: “We are delighted to work again in partnership with Lovell to deliver a high-quality, low carbon development of 106 new homes for local families situated in the heart of Canton.”
Councillor Lynda Thorne, Cabinet Member for Housing and Communities, said: “The Council is keen for more collaboration with our housing association partners to maximise the delivery of new social housing for the city, so it’s great to be working with Hafod, and Lovell, to deliver more much-needed affordable housing in an area of high demand but very little supply.”
