Bridgend County Borough Council has welcomed news that inpatient and outpatient facilities at Maesteg Community Hospital are set to benefit from a series of major improvements.

Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board has confirmed that it is carrying out a £1.6m investment which will provide the Llynfi Ward with modern new equipment and facilities, and establish a safer, improved environment which is fully compliant with latest infection control guidance.

With work due to start on refurbishing the roof of the inpatients building, the outpatients area will also increase in size and capacity to accommodate further specialist services intended to benefit patients in the Llynfi Valley and surrounding area.

While the work is being undertaken, patients will be temporarily cared for at the Ysbyty’r Seren facility in Bridgend.

Cllr Nicole Burnett, Cabinet Member for Social Services and Early Help, said: “It’s great to see Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board investing in Maesteg Community Hospital, and I am sure that the new facility is going to offer an improved, expanded service for local people.

“The plans have been developed in conjunction with the local community and the Maesteg Hospital League of Friends to ensure that the new facilities can meet the future needs of the community.

“These improvements will ensure that it remains a valuable community asset for years to come.”
