Margam school aims to save the planet and reduce costs – one printer at a time
Ysgol Cwm Brombil in Margam is on track to save 20% cost per copy across each of its departments’ printers in its first year, meaning the school can continue to invest in providing both primary and secondary pupils with the best quality environment to learn and develop.
This saving is being delivered through the HP PageWide range, which not only allows the school to reduce its plastic waste due to smaller ink cartridges, but also helps reduce the school’s carbon footprint by approximately 55% per printer, as well as using up to 73% less energy.
The range was installed by Cardiff print services specialists, Blue Sky Digital, who were able to help the school, which opened to pupils in November 2018, streamline its approach to printing and its data security. Blue Sky placed seven HP PageWide printers across the school site; five in the secondary and two in the primary school, making it more accessible for staff and pupils.
Eurig Thomas, deputy headteacher at Ysgol Cwm Brombil said:
“It was great to work with the Blue Sky team as they know their printers and they were able to provide us with the best options that would suit the school, but also take into consideration our commitment to be sustainable. The HP printers that they installed have been fantastic, they use less energy, but it doesn’t diminish the quality of the printed pages.
“The team also advised how we can ensure that our data remains secure by ensuring that our teachers were allocated passcodes, so that we can track usage by department to prevent wastage or over-use.”
Neil Brewer, director for Blue Sky Digital added:
“As Ysgol Cwm Brombil is a new school it gave us the opportunity to install managed print services that offer the best quality printers, but also look to make a positive environmental impact. The HP PageWide range offers that and is able to provide such a significant saving to the school in its first year, and we hope that they continue to see this as the school settles into its site.”
Blue Sky Digital has also donated 180 copies of Matthew Syed’s ‘You Are Awesome’ book to the school, which will be distributed to the year seven pupils joining the school in September 2019.
