Jones Bros Civil Engineering UK has found the target by sponsoring Penrhyn Bay under-8s football team.
As part of its work on the region’s multi-million-pound coastal defence scheme, the Ruthin-based firm has partnered with the town’s youth, helping to provide playing kits and training equipment for two seasons.
Jones Bros is on schedule to deliver £7.5m work of shoreside improvements as part of the marine project, which includes new surfacing, seating, handrails, and parking, as well as a cycle path, by the end of 2023.
Built on a promise to boost the local economy and engage with the community, the company’s public liaison officer for the scheme, Beatrice Harkin, said: “It is another fantastic opportunity to give something back to an area in which we are working.
“Heading into any development, we are always eager to play a positive role, and by helping a group of young athletes we are following through with that commitment.
“We hope the new kits can inspire the team to some impressive results, but to simply see children playing football with friends is motivation enough to provide our support.”
Arwel Baker, coach of Penrhyn Bay under-8s, said: “Almost all the team live within a few minutes of the sea defence work, and I know a few of them have been down to have a look.
“We’re all really grateful for the support Jones Bros has shown in funding our side’s strips and training equipment for the next couple of years.”
Jones Bros project manager Sam Roberts added: “I am immensely pleased with the scheme and how inviting and understanding the local community has been.
“To be able to sponsor organisations and help young people is an added bonus.”
Other community initiatives in the region have included a visit from pupils of Ysgol Glanwydden, which is located just a stone’s throw away from the development.
Fifty-five youngsters enjoyed two three-hour sessions in the information cabin, which included identifying true or false statements about the scheme, while there was a trip to the seafront to see the Jones Bros team in action.
Children were also tasked with creating an informative poster explaining the coastal defence project.
Established in the 1950s, Jones Bros owns one of the largest plant fleets in the UK and employs approximately 500 people.
The company is currently working on contracts in various sectors including highways, flood and marine defence, waste management and renewable energy around the UK.
The company runs an award-winning apprenticeship scheme, which has produced nearly 40 per cent of its current workforce, with many of its senior managers having started out as apprentices or in a trainee role. It has recruited more than 100 apprentices during the past three years.
