The McDonald’s Monopoly annual promotion hands out to customers millions of prizes each year, but will Welsh Residents get to enjoy the game in 2020?
When does McDonalds Monopoly 2020 start?
This year’s McDonalds Monopoly was due to begin in March but was postponed by the fast-food chain due to COVID-19. McDonalds have confirmed however that the giveaway will return later in the year.
COVID-19 continues to be a major threat to the population of the United Kingdom. McDonalds have stated that their restaurants will only open again if public safety is guaranteed. The burger giant opened 15 restaurants in the UK for delivery purposes from 13th May – with more set to open, however no Welsh restaurants are on this list.
McDonalds Monopoly usually runs for 41 days but it is currently unknown when McDonalds Monopoly 2020 will begin.
How do you play McDonalds Monopoly?
Like the classic Monopoly Board game, the objective of McDonalds Monopoly is to collect as many sets as possible. However, with McDonalds Monopoly you are also able to win prizes without collecting sets, prizes such as food items which we will discuss later.
Some Monopoly pieces are harder to get than others and these will be the pieces that allow you to win the big prizes like holidays and cars.
Instant win stickers are common and can be redeemed straight away – these are usually food items.
Be aware, not all McDonalds meals will come with stickers. In 2019, McNuggets and Big Macs did not come with any Monopoly stickers. But if you were a vegetarian you were in luck as a side salad gave you three stickers.
Make sure you keep an eye out for the rarest McDonalds properties, in 2019 the most sought-after property was Mayfair – only four of them were released.
What prizes will be available to win in McDonalds Monopoly 2020?
As of yet, McDonalds have not revealed a prize list for its 2020 Monopoly game. But if the prizes are anything like previous years, expect small prizes such as free fries and McFlurries to the big boy prizes of cars, cash prizes and holidays abroad.
Last year however, McDonalds made it harder to win the big prizes as they reduced the number of holidays from 200 to 20. In past years, there have been three ways in which to win at McDonald’s Monopoly:
Instant win Prizes
In 2019, there were tens of millions of instant win prizes to be won, so your chances of winning here are high. Instant win prizes equal one thing – free food. Simply peel off a sticker that comes with your McDonalds order, if it states ‘free fries’ (or whatever else), take it to the till before the expiry date and enjoying your free food.
Instant win prizes in McDonalds Monopoly 2019 were made up of a variety of McDonalds food items including: hash browns, fries, cheeseburgers, apple pies and much more. Players also won Now TV subscriptions, holidays and even cars. We expect the prizes for McDonalds Monopoly 2020 to be similar.
Online Prizes
All Monopoly stickers las year included an online code. Anyone who entered a McDonalds Monopoly code online at the McDonalds website was included into a cash prize draw.
Prizes between £5 and £100 were given away every minute last year for the duration of the promotion, it is expected that these promotions will continue in 2020.
Property set prizes
Prizes here include games consoles, holidays, cars and huge money cash prizes. If you manage to make a full Monopoly set (all the properties of one particular colour) then you will win one of the biggest cash prizes. Of course, the odds of winning these prizes are slim, however, we can let you know which are likely to be the rarest properties of each colour set for McDonalds Monopoly 2020.

- Any mobile phone with a one-year contract (400 – collect all four train stations)
- A £50 voucher for boohoo.com (18,000 – collect all three light blue properties)
- Medium McDonald’s meal (2,000,000 – collect both brown properties)
How to increase your chances of winning McDonalds Monopoly 2020
Eating as much as possible helps here. The more stickers you are peeling, the more chances statistically that you have of winning.
There are a few ways in which you can ensure you are getting the best value for money when it comes to the number of stickers you are receiving from each purchase which we point out below.
