Mid and West Wales MS Jane Dodds raises concerns over potential job losses at Nidec site
Yesterday in the Senedd, the Mid and West Wales MS Jane Dodds has raised concerns over potential job losses at the Nidec Control Techniques site in Newtown.
The site is currently the largest employer in Mid Wales, employing around 350 members of staff.
However, a recent announcement from the manufacturing firm has confirmed that it will be “right sizing” it’s operational capacity, placing close to 100 jobs at risk of being cut.
Commenting, the Mid and West Wales MS Jane Dodds said:
“I am extremely concerned at the news that close to 100 jobs could be lost at the Nidec site in Newtown.
The site currently employs around 350 members of staff, making it the largest private employer in Mid Wales. And I fear that any potential job cutting could prove to be devastating for the local economy.
My heartfelt condolences to all the staff and their families who have been affected by this news, to lose your job at any time can be stressful let alone during a Cost-of-Living crisis.
We urgently need the Welsh Government to step in and support those workers who have lost their jobs, whilst also safeguarding the future of the site to ensure that it stays in Powys for the near future.”
Commenting, Welsh Lib Dem PPC for Montgomeryshire and Glyndwr Glyn Preston added:
“The news that Nidec Control Techniques are set to cut around 100 jobs at their site in Newtown is extremely concerning.
The Nidec site is one of the area’s largest employers and any decision to scale back operations could prove to be devastating to the local economy.
My thoughts go out to the workers and their families who will now be forced to find other means of supporting themselves.”
