Monmouthshire Building Society Raises Over £5,000 for Shelter Cymru During the COVID-19 Crisis

Monmouthshire Building Society has raised over £5,000 for their 2020/21 Charity of the Year, Shelter Cymru.

In May, the Society pledged to donate £5 to Shelter Cymru for every member that switched their mortgage rate before 1st November 2020.

During that time, 506 Monmouthshire Building Society members switched their rate, totalling £2,530 of donations.

When combined with the money raised from other initiatives, the Society has raised £5,832 for Shelter Cymru so far this financial year.

The donation will help Shelter Cymru continue supporting people in housing need across Wales.

Like many charities, Shelter Cymru’s funds have been affected by the COVID-19 crisis due to usual fundraising being unable to take place.

Meanwhile, the economic impact of the pandemic means that more families across Wales need their essential services.

Will Carroll, CEO of Monmouthshire Building Society, said:

“The Society is proud to support Shelter Cymru. As a Building Society, it’s important to us that everyone has a place to call home.

“In these difficult times, the work of Shelter Cymru is needed more than ever, but they need our help to get through this crisis and continue supporting our communities.

“We would like to thank our members that supported this initiative by switching their rate over the past 6 months.”

Kerys Sheppard, Head of Fundraising at Shelter Cymru, said:

We are all concerned about the impact of coronavirus. We know that we not only need to continue to operate through the current crisis, but be strong enough to help with what comes next.

“Monmouthshire Building Society’s support is crucial to our survival and is greatly appreciated by us all and, of course, the many individuals and families that their donations will support.”
