  • 27% of people looking for a new property spend 3-4 hrs a week scrolling online
  • 28% of Brits are currently looking to buy or rent a new home.
13% of people in the UK who are house-hunting spend a whopping SIX hours a week searching for their dream home on property search websites, a new survey conducted by leading home moving comparison site Compare My Move has revealed.
27% of people looking for a new property spend three to four hours a week searching online at property websites and more than a third (35%) spend one to two hours a week scrolling through properties to rent or buy online.
The survey also finds more than a quarter of Brits (28%) are currently looking to buy or rent a new home.
Dave Sayce, co-founder of Cardiff-based Compare My Move, commented on the findings: “It’s no surprise people are spending this much time online. With so many listings and market changes, house hunting has become almost a part-time job! Spending six hours a week on property sites reflects just how competitive and overwhelming the market can feel.
“Finding the right home is one of life’s biggest decisions. The key is to stay organised and remember that the perfect property is out there. At Compare My Move, we’re committed to helping people save money by providing access to the best possible deals on removals, conveyancing, surveying and other moving services. Here are five top tips on how to move home as cost effectively as possible:
  1. Plan early: Book things in advance. Removal companies and van hires are cheaper when booked early. Also, avoid peak times. If you move midweek or mid-month you are likely to get lower rates and try and set a budget – track expenses for van hire, deposits, cleaning, and boxes.
  2. Downsize and declutter: Sell, donate, or recycle what you don’t need as less stuff equals lower costs. Use platforms like Facebook Marketplace, eBay, or Vinted to earn some cash back and sell some unwanted items.
  3. Look out for hidden costs: Check moving insurance and make sure valuables are covered so that pricey mistakes can be avoided. Also, avoid storage costs if possible by planning the move so you don’t need to pay any storage costs.
  4. Compare conveyancing costs: Use a comparison site like Compare My Move to find the most affordable conveyancing solicitor for your needs. Shopping around can lead to significant savings.
  5. Hire a mortgage broker: This can be a huge benefit, whether you are buying a home or remortgaging. Brokers often have access to exclusive deals, making them a better option than going direct to a lender.
