In a step to further strengthen its position as a supportive employer, Neath Port Talbot Council has become a member of Employers for Carers after the council’s Personnel Committee gave approval for the move on October 24th.

Supported by the specialist knowledge of Carers UK and Carers Wales, Employers for Carers (EfC) delivers hands-on advice to employers on how to support its employees who have caring responsibilities.

Council employees will be able to access support from the EfC digital platform, full of practical guides, e-learning and toolkits. The council will also benefit from access to tailored, expert consultancy and training services.

The Council’s Future of Work Strategy includes priorities to help retain talent and develop an inclusive workplace where employees know they are valued and are motivated, as well as being supported with their health and well-being. Supporting employees with their caring responsibilities will help to achieve this.

Sheenagh Rees, Head of People & Organisational Development said:

“Employees are the council’s most important asset. It is critical that we retain and attract a talented and focused workforce and a key part of this is being a caring employer. Employers for Carers Wales membership will allow us to offer a range of specialist support to benefit colleagues who have caring responsibilities.”

Jane Healey, Employers for Carers Wales, Hub Manager said:

“We are so pleased that Neath Port Talbot Council have joined Employers for Carers. Their choice to partner with us will provide vital support for staff with caring responsibilities in what can be a challenging time to balance work and care. In addition, working with Neath Port Talbot Council will help to raise awareness of issues affecting carers across Wales and support in reaching all carers across different communities.”
