Visitors to Aberfan Community Centre will from today be welcomed with a brand new café serving a wide range of hot drinks, luxury coffees and even the latest frappes, thanks to investment from the Merthyr Tydfil Leisure Trust, working alongside Russell Wood and Brian Williams from Waypoint Leisure.

On-hand to witness the opening was Coffee specialist Joanna Parry from South Wales-based Argies Coffee, who has supplied training and equipment as well as the company’s extensive range of speciality coffees, syrups and sundries.

Joanna said:

“It’s been a wonderful experience seeing the Café take shape from our initial discussions with everyone involved. The team have enjoyed barista training and have quickly learned how to make a wide range of hot and cold speciality drinks. When I saw them serving our coffee to their first customers today, I felt a real sense of pride. It goes without saying that that we wish the café every success.”

Russell Wood from Waypoint Leisure added:

“The support we have had from Joanna and Argies Coffee has been fantastic, they really have gone the extra mile. The team really appreciated Joanna coming to support them on their first day, her assistance and encouragement has helped them grow both their skills and their confidence.

“We are now working with the Trust to develop similar customer experiences in other retail leisure locations.”

The café welcomes visitors from Monday – Friday 10.30am – 7.30pm and on Saturdays from 9.00am – 2.00pm.
