New Community Kit Room for Blaenau Gwent

A new Community Kit Room has been set up by Aneurin Leisure Trust’s sports development team, in partnership with StreetGames Wales, as part of the Family Engagement Project, to help members of the community access appropriate sports clothing and footwear, free of charge.

The initiative has been borne out of the sports development team and StreetGames Wales’ outreach engagement programmes which highlighted the need for this resource, particularly given the economic pressures facing all families.

Cameron Herring, Community Sport Officer for Aneurin Leisure Trust said: “We’re looking to work in collaboration with partners across Blaenau Gwent including schools, sports clubs, organisations and community groups so we can help all ages and abilities get the kit they need to support their ongoing participation with sport.

Once the Community Kit Room is open and established, we’ll be looking to expand from Abertillery sports centre to include drop-off and collection points across the local community where members of the public can donate and collect sports clothing and footwear at a venue that is convenient to them.”

Gareth Winmill, Head of Doorstep Sport and Engagement, StreetGames Wales said: “The Community Kit Room is a great development for the area. It fits perfectly with our mission to help transform the lives of young people through sport and physical activity and we’ve been delighted to support this initiative with Aneurin Leisure sports development team.”

Phill Sykes, Director of Operations for Aneurin Leisure Trust added: “The team has done an outstanding job of setting up the Community Kit Room and illustrating their commitment to helping improve community life across Blaenau Gwent.

We would welcome all organisations getting in touch to find out more about how they can support the team to expand this much-needed resource to assist it in what will undoubtedly be a great success.”

The Community Kit Room will be opening on Friday, 17th February 2023 and is based at Abertillery sports centre, and will be open from 10.00am-2.00pm for members of the public to drop by to find out more and see what’s on offer.
