HMT Sancta Maria has appointed a new hospital director to drive forward the growth in hospital services.

Tim Atter joins the hospital, with a background in physiotherapy, which has seen him in key roles from head of physiotherapy for the Barbarians, GB Ice Hockey team, and the Cardiff Blues. He has travelled the world treating patients, all while making his mark in the private healthcare sector.

In 2008, Tim was one of the founders of Vale Healthcare with other consultants and was a director as it opened its Cardiff Bay and Vale Hospital premises. His role later evolved to become a Hospital Director at Nuffield Health.

That experience, alongside his Executive Director role at BMI Healthcare, has led him to his role at HMT Sancta Maria, where he sees huge potential for further growth.

Commenting on his appointment, Tim, said: “I’m very much looking forward to driving growth in our offer at HMT Sancta Maria. The setting is incredible and offers a truly unique and impressive environment for patients.

“The hospital’s charitable status also played a big part in me accepting this role. As a not-for-profit, the hospital’s surplus is ploughed into dementia research as well as supporting local causes, which I am hugely passionate about.

“In my role, I want to really develop a clear strategy for the hospital so we can deliver even more procedures from our SA1 location. Areas of focus include cardiology, cancer services, orthopaedics, physiotherapy, as well as developing our diagnostic suite.

“Innovation is key, and I am also looking forward to working closely with our world-class clinicians, to explore how we can treat our patients with even more cutting-edge procedures.

“I am also passionate about providing exceptional patient care, which stems from my established career as a physiotherapist. Putting the patient first is of absolute importance to me, which aligns perfectly with HMT Sancta Maria. The patient journey from making an enquiry to aftercare support, should be exceptional and I am looking forward to building on the already excellent patient care strategy within the hospital.”

Tim will lead the hospital as it further embeds in its more prominent, SA1 location. The hospital has a diagnostic suite including MRI and digital X-Ray, a dedicated day surgery unit, three operating theatres, 12 en-suite patient bedrooms and a range of other benefits including underground parking, step-free access, and excellent transport links.
