New Initiative Launched to Help Older People Stay Warm and Reduce Energy Costs in Carmarthenshire

Older_Not_colder

A new initiative, Older Not Colder, has been launched by Care & Repair Carmarthenshire to assist older residents in staying warm and safe in their homes while also helping to reduce energy bills.

The service, available to residents aged 60 and over who either own or privately rent their homes, provides free home energy assessments, expert advice, and practical support to improve energy efficiency and lower heating costs. Care & Repair’s Home Energy Officers will conduct complimentary home visits to assess energy efficiency and offer guidance on accessing funding for necessary repairs and improvements.

Essential Support for Vulnerable Residents

In a collaborative effort, Llesiant Delta Wellbeing has partnered with Care & Repair to distribute ‘warm bags’ to vulnerable older individuals in the community. Delta Wellbeing’s response officers will deliver these essential packs during home visits, ensuring that immediate relief and access to the free Older Not Colder service is provided.

Each warm bag contains key winter essentials, including:

  • Hand warmers
  • A thermometer
  • Thermal socks
  • A travel mug
  • A hat and gloves
  • A hot water bottle
  • A large blanket

Commitment to Safety and Comfort

Care & Repair Carmarthenshire remains dedicated to enabling older residents to live in secure, comfortable, and energy-efficient homes. The organization provides expert advice, assistance with home repairs, and practical adaptations tailored to individual needs.

Delta Wellbeing, a Local Authority Trading Company owned by Carmarthenshire County Council, plays a crucial role in delivering assistive technology, proactive monitoring, and a single point of access for health and social care information and advice.

Carmarthenshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Health and Social Services, Cllr Jane Tremlett, emphasized the importance of the initiative, stating:
“This initiative will provide much-needed support to older people in our community, ensuring they stay warm and safe during the winter months. No one should have to choose between heating their home and other essentials, and we are here to help.”
