Swansea’s Boss Brewing has received a boost thanks to two new listings in Tesco stores across Wales.

New Boss beers – ‘Sant or Sinner St David’s Welsh Ale’, which is exclusively available at Tesco, and ‘Let The Dragon Roar Welsh Pale Ale’ – have launched this week in Tesco’s Superstores and Extra stores across the nation.

The new lines come as part of Boss’ drive to diversify its business and secure more retail sales in what has been a challenging year for breweries with pubs in Wales still closed due to Covid-19 restrictions.

“Boss Brewing is an exciting and innovative Welsh brand, so we are really delighted to be able to add two terrific new beers to our range in store – especially given how challenging the last 12 months have been for our breweries,” said Nathan Edwards, Tesco’s local buyer for Wales. “We’re delighted to be able to carry on supporting them.

“We know that their loyal customers will be heading back to pubs as soon as they are able, but the ‘at home’ drinking market is likely to remain strong even as restrictions are eased. We hope our customers in Wales will take advantage of being able to pick up these great Boss beers in store, and maybe even enjoy them outdoors with a friend – albeit in a socially distanced way for now.”

The Boss brewery was launched in 2015 by Sarah John and Roy Allkin from an industrial unit on the outskirts of Swansea.

Less than three years later, Boss Brewing had expanded so much that it had moved to its current premises, a Grade 2 listed former cinema in Landore, opposite Swansea’s Liberty Stadium. With ten times the floor space of their previous base, the business can now offer brewery tours and an on-site tap room.

Sarah John, co-founder of Boss Brewing, said: “Pubs closing due to the pandemic has been challenging for all breweries, but it has given us the added impetus to diversify our business even further into the ‘at home’ drinking market.

“We’ve been really pleased with the support we’ve had from customers old and new, and are delighted to be strengthening our relationship with Tesco with these new lines.”
