Newport Self Storage Specialist Urges SMEs and Others to Check Security After Beyonce Burglary
The MD of the fastest growing self-storage provider in Wales and the UK has urged people to make sure their self-storage facility offers adequate security after a series of high-profile burglaries in the US which saw Beyoncé lose a reported $1m in valuables, and Miley Cyrus lose out to the tune of $10,000 with a theft of guitars.
Beyonce’s LA storage units were hit twce by thieves earlier this month when culprits swiped expensive handbags and clothes thought to belong to her and her stylist. Cyrus lost musical instruments and family photographs when her lock-up was targeted twice too. As well as having implications for people who use self-storage sites for their private possessions the thefts should also be noted by the many thousands of small businesses that run their operations from self-storage sites in Wales.
Simon Williams, MD of Storage Giant, which is on course to double its footprint in the UK in 2021/22 said: “Of course, thieves are more likely to target celebrities who are storing high value goods, but many people overlook the actual value of the goods they are storing. Self-storage burglaries do happen in the UK and it is vital that people who are looking to sign up with a self-storage provider ask the right questions about the security being offered. This is particularly important for the many thousands of small businesses that are run from storage facilities across the UK. We have more than 2,000 smes across our sites in Newport, Cardiff, Swansea, Llanelli, Cwmbran, Bristol and throughout the Midlands, from trades people to charities, graphic designers, eBay businesses and accounting firms and thieves will always tend to target both high value goods and weak security.
“We have been in business since 2007 and here at Storage Giant we have never experienced a break-in at any of our 10 stores. Our security continues to be state-of-the-art. We have pin code access along with app control as well as biometric locks. Every one of the hundreds of storage units at any of our stores have their own individual alarm linked to a main system, which in turn is linked directly to staff and police. In the event the unlikely were to happen, we would have both staff and police on site within minutes. In fact it would take longer for a burglar to break in that it would for the police response to happen. We also have 24-hour CCTV cameras in and around every store.”
