Aber Falls ‘Distillery Exclusive’ sells out on launch day

Aber Falls 2021 Release (1)-1

Aber Falls almost broke the internet as they released their brand new ‘Distillery Exclusive’ Welsh whisky, with just 350 bottles being made available from the Aber Falls Visitor Centre.  The hotly anticipated August launch received over 200,000 views online and prompted mile-long queues of visitors keen to get their hands on this exclusive release.

Given the fantastic response on social media, the Distillery had expected their ‘Distillery Exclusive’ Single Malt Whisky release, bottled at 56% ABV, to be popular, but even they were surprised when it sold out on launch day.

Made from just one single orange wine cask, which was sourced from the South of Spain, this three-year-old Welsh Single Malt is very distinctive. With a striking deep amber colour, the whisky produces a sweet malt, toffee and dark chocolate orange aroma and the palate delivers a rich oak and sweet maltiness, developing into toffee, chocolate and espresso and balanced with rich Seville orange. The sweet finish is long and lingering, with hints of orange and gentle spice.

Dr Kirstie McCallum, Master Blender at Aber Falls, said: “Unlike Scottish distilleries who are more tightly bound by regulations, our Welsh distillery is able to experiment with a variety of wood types and barrels. As a result, we have much greater freedom when it comes to trying out new casks to mature our whisky and this single malt orange wine cask is a perfect example of where our craft and innovation have been hugely successful.”

Aber Falls whiskies are distilled, matured and bottled in Abergwyngregyn, Wales, between the foothills of the Snowdonian mountains and the Menai straits. They are crafted using 100% Welsh malted barley and rock-filtered water taken from the Aber Falls Waterfall and are crafted by a team of local people.

Welsh and proud, Aber Falls Distillery, in collaboration with other Welsh distilleries, is working towards protecting Welsh whisky with a Protected Geographical Indication (PGI). In addition, Aber Falls Distillery is also working hard to protect the local environment by adopting an ethos of field-to-field, maximising local resources by returning any waste ingredients back to local farms for use as fertiliser or cattle feed.

James Wright, Managing Director at Aber Falls Whisky Distillery, said: “We are whisky enthusiasts and it is our passion and our drive to create exceptional Welsh whisky that excites both us and the whisky connoisseur. This ‘Distillery Exclusive’ is particularly innovative and is our latest whisky to be released since our highly sought-after inaugural release in May. We strive to have fun and experiment with different casks to create well-crafted whisky and give consumers something a little bit special.”

The next ‘Distillery Exclusive’ release, scheduled for October, is hotly anticipated… whisky lovers, watch this space!
