Plans are under development for a review of the current recycling and waste arrangements in Wildmill which will seek to engage with residents and consider the location of collection points around the estate.

Deputy Leader, Cllr Hywel Williams said: “Bridgend County Borough Council, Valleys To Coast Housing and Kier are continuing to work in partnership to provide an effective waste and recycling service across the estate, and to tackle any issues that may arise.

“During the recent heatwave, Kier had to reorganise its workforce after a number of staff had to self-isolate due to potential contact with someone who had tested positive for coronavirus.

“As a result, not all collections could be completed on Friday 15 July, but alternative arrangements were made so that crews returned to the estate as quickly as possible.

“I’m pleased to see that all outstanding recycling has been collected, and that with staff who were previously isolating now back in work, the service is running as normal once more.

“At the same time, local ward members are continuing to represent and engage with residents, as are Valleys To Coast Housing who are responding to calls about rubbish dumped outside communal collection points on the estate, and are ensuring that any flytipping is cleared as quickly as possible.

“We have carried out a lot of work in Wildmill to install extra bins and move some of the communal collection points to make them more accessible for residents and less convenient for flytippers or people intent on abusing the system.

“We have also engaged with residents to encourage them to use the system effectively and minimise the potential for experiencing any problems.

“We now want to take a fresh look at the system and engage with residents to see what is working well, review whether any further improvements can be made, and consider how we can continue to work together to ensure the recycling and waste system continues to run effectively.

“This is currently under discussion and we will announce further details soon.”
