Iconic Wind St Bar, The Perch, transformed in £150,000 lockdown refurbishment.

Owners of The Perch, Swansea, say they are excited to unveil their new look to the public, following a £150,000 refurbishment.

Well known for being the go-to place for live music entertainment in the City Centre; over the years, The Perch has played host to some of South Wales’ most recognised musical talent including bands Fonz & The Poet, Hat and The Fiddle, The Decades and many more.

Up until the first national lockdown in March 2020, owners Matt and Oliver regularly entertained crowds of up to 110, but the new make-over of the Wind St venue has seen The Perch double its capacity, now able to accommodate the footfall of approximately 220 people.

Now, The Perch looks better than ever, with the floors renewed throughout and the walls all freshly painted. The owners have also installed booth seating, a brand new bar – now home to their brand new exclusive cocktail menu, whilst the original bar has been torn out and recycled to make one-of-a-kind table seating throughout the refurbed venue. More than this, the lower level of The Perch has also been reimagined, with newly fitted toilet facilities and a comfortable, well-lit dressing area for make-up and hair touch ups through the night.

Though despite the major overhaul, co-owner Oliver insists that their first priority was to always maintain the most original features of the building and as such, The Perch has lost none of its traditional character. Considerable financial risk has been taken investing so much capital into the refurbishment, but it is hoped to be a welcomed and fresh addition to Wind St.

A vibrant new tapas menu will include several homemade dishes such as market-fresh calamari, meatballs in tomato sauce and chargrilled spiced cauliflower, The Perch are also extending their opening hours and are now set to be an all-day venue providing light bites and cocktails throughout the day.

“We’ve taken great care to ensure our menu offers a vast range of vegetarian and vegan options, and none of our food will be pre-packed or frozen. Everything will be made fresh on site and we’ve taste-tested each dish to know we’re serving quality food from the moment we can.”

Whilst waiting on the green light from the government to re-open, Matt and Oliver say they are more than ready to welcome back the public, and have launched a take-away service for those eager to sample the food on offer whilst lockdown restrictions continue to stay in place.
