New recycling centre ready to offer residents a ‘bigger, better service’

Final preparations are underway at Village Farm Industrial Estate in Pyle for Bridgend County Borough Council’s all-new community recycling centre.

Featuring a split-level design, drivers will be able to follow a simple one-way system around the new centre and choose whether they want to access parking bays and recycling skips at ground level, or to use bypass lanes and ramps leading to high-sided skips on an upper level.

With an all-weather canopy on the higher level, the site features a range of additional features, including flexible bollards to help guide drivers and prevent accidental damage to vehicles, lighting powered by on-site solar panels, and flat kerb-free parking bays to enhance safety and remove potential trip hazards for people carrying waste from their cars.

Capable of accommodating up to 24 vehicles at a time, the new recycling centre also features on-site queuing capacity for a further 72 vehicles. To ease congestion and support the flow of traffic around both the recycling centre and Village Farm Industrial Estate, improvement work is also being carried out at the estate entrance.

This will introduce a dedicated turning lane from the A48 onto Heol Mostyn, new traffic lights and a safe crossing island. As part of the works, the junction will also be resurfaced in preparation for the opening of the site.

Deputy Leader, Cllr Hywel Williams said: “This represents a £2.3m investment into new facilities and improvements at Village Farm Industrial Estate as well as the creation of an all-new facility that will help thousands of households to recycle even more of their waste.

“The new facility promises to be bigger, better and more accessible than the former Tythegston site, and I am really pleased to see that there are also plans to create a new re-use shop similar to the popular facility based at Maesteg community recycling centre.

“Once the associated roadworks are complete, we will be announcing details of when residents can expect the new community recycling centre to open.”
