Not Quite ‘Sunset’ in Wales – But a Stunning After-Work Experience at the Ivy Asia in Cardiff

We recently had the absolute pleasure of experiencing Ivy Asia’s newly launched ‘Sunset’ menu – an after-work dream served daily between 4pm and 6pm – and let us tell you, it’s a must-visit venue for those after work meetings.

Timed perfectly for the end of our 8am–4pm workday, the Sunset menu offers a tapas-style selection of small, exquisitely crafted dishes, and it provided the ideal opportunity to unwind, connect, and indulge. From the moment we arrived, Ivy Asia delivered on every level – before a single bite even touched our plates.

The venue itself is a masterpiece. Walking in feels like stepping into another world – the iconic abalone floor, opulent cherry blossoms, golden Buddhas, and vibrant hues create an immersive visual experience that stuns from every angle. Add in a warm welcome with full cloakroom service, impeccably dressed staff, and elegant table settings – this is luxury dining done right.

Now, on to the REAL star of the show: the food.

The Ivy Asia’s Sunset menu offers ten flavour-packed small plates at just £5 each – every dish served as a duo, perfect for sharing (or not, we wouldn’t blame you). Faced with such a tempting list, we did what any curious food-lover would do – we ordered everything. No regrets – and the team gently brought the dishes out in batches of three, so the table didn’t get overloaded.

One of the things we adore about Ivy Asia is how it gently nudges us outside our comfort zone in the most delicious way possible. This menu was no exception – a curated culinary journey full of surprises and new favourites.

Delicious Edamame

The Steamed Edamame with salt and chilli dip was a delightful first for us – simple, fresh, and surprisingly moreish (and thanks to a helpful tip from our lovely waitress, we didn’t try to eat the pods!). Familiar favourites like the Ssamjang Chicken Yakitori hit all the right notes – no surprises there!  However, we loved everything else too, particularly loving the Char Sui Barbecue Glazed Pork Belly and the Avocado, Cucumber & Asparagus Maki Rolls both of which have earned permanent spots on our go-to list.

The delicate flavours of the dumplings and gyozas were also incredible – but they looked so beautiful – we weren’t sure if we wanted to wait a little longer before devouring them!

Each dish was beautifully balanced, vibrant, and utterly satisfying – reflecting the same attention to detail and creativity as the restaurant’s dazzling interiors. It’s not just dinner; it’s an experience, a shared moment of joy over plates that spark conversation and second helpings – and we loved it all.

Of course, drinks play their part too. With an extensive cocktail menu (several new ones created just for the sunset menu) and a wine list carefully chosen to complement the menu, we opted for the house rosé – a perfect pairing that elevated the entire evening.

Char Sui Barbecue Glazed Pork Belly – Our New Firm Favourite!

What stood out most was the thought and care behind every element – from the menu design to the atmosphere, right through to the service and selection of wines. Whether you’re popping in for a quick bite or making a night of it with friends or colleagues, Ivy Asia’s Sunset menu delivers an unforgettable after-work treat.

We left full, happy, and already planning our return. Trust us – this is a post-work ritual worth starting.
