Following a two-month Wales-wide search, Oakwood Theme Park has selected three young ambassadors to become their new Directors of Fun.

Seven-year old Idris Battelley-de-Torres from Haverfordwest, ten-year old Levi Hubbard from Pontardawe and and thirteen-year old Faith Dee McDermott from Llanmiloe in Carmarthenshire  battled stiff competition to secure their prestigious position at  Wales’ largest theme park. The three young directors will help park owners ensure the attraction is working hard to offer the best possible experience to young visitors. The Pembrokeshire-based attraction, which first opened its doors over thirty years ago, is giving the three Directors of Fun the chance to spend time with senior executives at Oakwood to share their thoughts and ideas on what they love about the park and how it can be improved.

Seven-year old Idris said:

“I am really excited that Oakwood has chosen me to share my ideas. I can’t wait to try all of the rides and have lots of ideas on ways to make Oakwood even better than it already is.”

Levi, who attends Ysgol Gynradd Gymraeg Pontardawe, said:

“I love Oakwood Park. I come for my birthday every year and last year went on Speed five times in a row.  It’s my favourite because I like really fast rides and going upside down.  I can’t wait to help come up with new events and activities.”

Faith, who attends Dyffryn Taf school, said:

“I didn’t expect to get the role because I knew how many people would have applied. I decided to write a poem for my application because I wanted to do something a bit different.

“I’m a big fan of Oakwood and their rides are awesome, especially, Megafobia. I love meeting new people and discovering new things. I’m really interested to hear about how the park designs and implements new rides, areas and events, and am looking forward to being involved in the process.”

Sue Elaiho, Director of Oakwood Theme Park, said

“Hearing the thoughts of the public is very important to us at Oakwood so that we can consistently provide an attraction of the highest quality, that Pembrokeshire, and Wales alike, is proud to call its own. We are continually looking at ways to improve Oakwood and continue to offer attractions that people love, which is what inspired us to search for our Directors of Fun.

“We had so many incredible entries, and it was extremely difficult to narrow them down to just three. We look forward to hearing more their ideas, and hearing what they think we can improve for our young visitors.”

As well as having the opportunity to share their thoughts with park bosses, the young directors will also bag themselves a family annual pass to the amusement park, home to the world-famous wooden rollercoaster Megafobia, as part of the role.
