Over 200 students with additional learning needs explore future careers at Ysgol Bae Baglan

Careers Wales, in collaboration with Ysgol Bae Baglan and various exhibitors, hosted an interactive careers event “What Next? Choose Your Future”, giving young people with additional learning needs the opportunity to explore future career options.
Held at Ysgol Bae Baglan, the event welcomed around 200 pupils from Years 10 and 11 at secondary schools across south-west Wales, offering them the chance to engage with employers, training providers, and further education institutions.

At the event, pupils had the chance to:
-
Enjoy hands-on activities to learn about different jobs;
-
Speak to employers about different careers;
-
Find out about vocational courses from colleges and training providers;
-
Get information and advice from Careers Wales.
One Year 11 pupil from Bryntirion said: “I’ve really enjoyed today. I’ve found out about careers that I probably wouldn’t have thought about before.”
A second pupil from Year 11 added: “It’s a good opportunity to speak to people. It has helped me build my confidence.”

James Harper, social impact manager at Principality Building Society, said: “Today’s event has been a great opportunity for employers and young people to come together. We’ve been impressed by the enthusiasm shown by young people and their desire to learn more about different careers.”
Matthew Wright, finance and people development adviser at Mrs Buckét, said: “Careers events are a great way for us to reach young people. It’s allowed us to showcase our organisation and highlight the many different job roles available at Mrs Bucket.”
Laura Smith, a Careers Wales business engagement adviser, said: “Our careers events are important because they bring opportunities to life for young people. Meeting employers, trying hands-on activities, and having conversations about careers makes everything real.
“These events also help employers reach an incredible pool of talent out there. Those first impressions can lead to work experience, apprenticeships, and ultimately, rewarding careers.”
